What's make Granite so special?

Q: I've been reading about how granite is statistically the "top seller" when it comes to kitchen countertops when researching for my kitchen remodel. Is this correct? There are so many interesting new products that I'm discovering. What exactly is it about granite that makes it so special?

A: It is true that granite has long been the preferred material for kitchen countertops. Granite has a richness and depth that adds a true sense of elegance to the kitchen—or anywhere else in the home where it is used. Granite has a one-of-a-kind, ageless beauty. It can take a kitchen makeover to the next level and is frequently the focal point of the area. What you say, though, is correct. There are several products available now that are more durable and require less upkeep. The quick answer is that it is simply a matter of personal preference. Aside from its timeless beauty, one of the best things about granite is that each slab is absolutely distinct. No two slabs will ever be identical, even if they come from the same quarry. Granite's colour varies greatly based on the minerals contained in any one piece of stone since it is made up of many different types of crystals. The most common colours are white, grey, black, pink, and white, with greens, browns, and blues appearing on occasion. Because of the variety of colours and patterns available, each countertop is one-of-a-kind.

Granite is an extremely strong material that resists scratches and high temperatures. Because granite is so hard, cutting on it will ruin your knife before it harms your countertop. Granite can withstand stains and everyday wear and tear if properly sealed. However, regular sealing is required to preserve the stain resistance and overall appearance in good condition. Sealing will help keep spilled liquids from soaking into the granite. Quartzite, which is a member of the granite family, should also be treated with caution when exposed to acids such as wine or lemon juice. They have the ability to leave etch marks or dull patches. Also, resist the need to use harsh cleaners to clean granite surfaces. Instead, use a soft cloth, warm water, and a light cleanser like dish soap, or get a sealer from Stone Skin.

If you desire a low- or even no-maintenance surface, granite may be a disadvantage. Though sealing a granite countertop is a simple task, if you don't want to deal with it on an annual basis, a quartz surface, such as Quartz, may be a better choice for you because it never needs to be sealed.

To summarise, if you like the unique look of granite and don't mind giving your counters a unique look, granite is an excellent choice for a countertop material. Granite countertops can last a lifetime if properly cared for. And, while it does necessitate annual sealing, it is not a difficult task. You can seal a countertop if you can wipe it down.
